Favorite Character Friday -- Aquila Desai

Favorite Character Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Adria's Romance Reviews that gives readers a chance to celebrate their favorite characters!

Why a weekly meme? Because really, with millions of books out there and more coming out every week, characters are like potato chips, you can't have just one.

How it works:
Every week you pick one of your favorite characters and tell every one who it is, what book they're from and WHY they're one of your favorite characters. Be sure to include the blurb and book cover as well! Share the love and maybe someone will read that same book and see why that character is one of your favorites! Unlike the Book Boyfriend meme (which was a great meme), your Favorite Character Fridays choice can be male or female!

 Favorite Character:
Aquila Desai
Image may contain: one or more people

Book Title & Author:
Emergence by SGD Singh

Why is this character your favorite (Feel free to include a favorite quote or scene)?
Aquila is such a sweetheart. He comes off as mysterious but you soon learn why that is and it makes you love him even more. His personality shines so much in the book and you can't help. I can't say too much else without giving away major spoilers, but trust me when I say he is amazing!!

My Review:
I had to take some time after reading this book to even find words to say how amazing it was. I still can't seem to do it, but this book needs the world to know everyone needs to read it!

This is the first urban fantasy that I have read and I am now sucked in. This book takes place in Punjab, mainly at headquarters, you'll find out more about that as you read! The writing of the world is so descriptive and detailed that i felt i was right there next to the gang the whole time.

This book is so full of so many emotions it will keep you on the rollercoaster of life even until the very last page. Suspense, fear, happiness, confusion, romance, and just pure love for the characters will course through as you read. I can't even pick a favorite character, there are so many that steal your heart you want to be friends with them all. I am so glad this is a trilogy because i am definitely not ready to let them go just yet!

This book would be great for anyone, doesn't matter the age or gender. The story can suck anyone in. You get wonderful descriptions of food that make you want to jump into the pages and eat with them, to solid friendships between the characters, some sweet romances, and of course some warrior skills to round it all out! If you haven't read this book, I suggest you purchase it right now and get ready for a long night of no sleep until you get the very last page!

Saving Brad
By:Siobhan Davis
Release Date: October 22, 2017

| Goodreads | Amazon |

Brad
I’m in love with my best friend’s girl.
She knows it. He knows it. Everyone knows it.
Faye will never be mine, but try telling that to my stupid heart.
An endless rotation of girls streams in and out of my bedroom in a desperate attempt to forget her, but nothing eases the horrid ache in my chest. Rejection isn’t anything new for me, but it hasn’t gotten any easier.
Until she reappears in my life. Like an out-of-control tornado. Storming in, all fierce and angry, ready to steamroll everything in her path. Rachel is trouble with a capital T bundled in a gorgeous, sexy, Irish package.
She pushes all the wrong buttons, and I can’t decide if I want to yell at her or kiss her.
I should steer clear.
But I’ve never been very good at taking my own advice. Especially when it comes to girls I can’t have and shouldn’t want.

Rachel
I need to escape.
To put as much distance between me and that monster so I can start living my life.
Yet, even the vast Atlantic Ocean isn’t enough to sever the connection. To allow me to forget how he’s ruined me. His hold is more than just physical. He has a vise grip on my head and my heart, and I can’t breathe, can’t think, can’t function.
So, I do everything to blot it out.
Until he reappears in my life.
Brad McConaughey. So hot. So infuriating. So in love with my best friend.
Every word out of Brad’s mouth makes me want to throat punch him or kick him in the nuts.
But he makes me feel, and I hate him for it. A part of me might actually love him for it.
I should keep my distance, but like destructive magnets, we are drawn together.
This isn’t going to end well.
I know it. He knows it.
But we’re powerless to resist.

By Joe Hill

Aging, self-absorbed rock star Judas Coyne has a thing for the macabre -- his collection includes sketches from infamous serial killer John Wayne Gacy, a trepanned skull from the 16th century, a used hangman's noose, Aleister Crowley's childhood chessboard, etc. -- so when his assistant tells him about a ghost for sale on an online auction site, he immediately puts in a bid and purchases it.

The black, heart-shaped box that Coyne receives in the mail not only contains the suit of a dead man but also his vengeance-obsessed spirit. Now, determined to kill Coyne and anyone who aids him, the merciless ghost of Craddock McDermott begins his assault on the rocker's sanity.

By Shirley Jackson

First published in 1959, Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House has been hailed as a perfect work of unnerving terror. It is the story of four seekers who arrive at a notoriously unfriendly pile called Hill House: Dr. Montague, an occult scholar looking for solid evidence of a "haunting"; Theodora, his lighthearted assistant; Eleanor, a friendless, fragile young woman well acquainted with poltergeists; and Luke, the future heir of Hill House. At first, their stay seems destined to be merely a spooky encounter with inexplicable phenomena. But Hill House is gathering its powers—and soon it will choose one of them to make its own.

Review -- Hearts are like Balloons

34807723
Hearts are like Balloons
Author: Candace Robinson
Release Date: June 30, 2017
Publisher: Self-Published
Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars
Pages: 234
Format: ebook

Goodreads | Amazon |

Synopsis:

May Falkner’s past two years have been a rough road. When her father suddenly passes away, May needs to find a job to help out her mom and regain some control over her life. Working at the bookstore helps her heal, laugh, and hope again. It also leads her to cross paths with Nico Evitts, who begins as just a co-worker, but becomes so much more

When it all becomes perfect, because there is no perfect, life steps in to prove once again that it all can crash down harder than before. This is a story about finding yourself, love, and the things in life that are still here.

Hearts are like balloons. Sometimes they inflate… Sometimes they deflate…

My Review:
Now that was a story! Right from the beginning you are sucked into the life of May and are not able to stop until you finish the last page! I finished the whole book in a day, I just had to keep going to know what happened next.

This was such a sweet story with such loveable characters. There wasn't a single one that I didn't like and I have to say that I think that is a first for me. May was such a sweet girl doing all she can to not let life get her down. Violet and her personality is just as vibrant as her purple hair. Jessie is a total sweetheart and the best friend anyone could ever wish for. And Nico...swoon! How can you not love him. Guys should read this book to see how they should be! Nico was in the easiest words to say, perfection.

While this book was full of sweet romances and lots of smiling moments, it also had just as many times of heart ache and pain. The author does a perfect balance to make you turning each page until the very end. Someone who knows the pain of losing those you love so suddenly was really able to relate but even someone who hasnt will still be able to understand the experience written in the pages and still have the desire to keep going.

The messages in this story are wonderful. The biggest one I took with me was never give up. No matter what happens in life, there is always a way. Don't be afraid to get help either.

I think anyone out there should get a copy of this book. Young, old, male, female, doesn't matter. The message is so spectacular that everyone needs to read it and take it with you through the rest of your life.
