A mysterious house. An old journal. A dusty chest holding more than secrets.

Each talisman found in the chest grants the chosen a gift, a unique ability. But with that power comes a burden—the duty of The Order.

Something is coming.

Something evil.

And it's up to The Order to stop it.

MANTLE - The Talisman Chronicles, Episode 4

Maia Sheridan isn’t sure why her cousin and her friends are so interested in an ancient journal found buried in the library archives, but she suspects they have a hidden motive. The journal tells of a secret group called The Order—powerful warriors tasked with protecting humanity.

Maia knows it’s a legend, an interesting bit of mythology passed down through generations. But the more she translates the journal, the more she begins to wonder if there’s more to the myth than meets the eye.

Maybe The Order is real. And maybe Maia’s destined to be a part of it.

My Review:

This book follows Maia. We meet her at the end of Gauntlet. We seem to be introduced to a new member of the order as each book comes to a close. I like this about the series. I get to look forward to who is going to be joining them and how they each end up finding the order in the first place.

In this book you get a lot of questions answered but yet you are given more questions as you go along. It is done so artfully well that it just sucks you in and makes you not able to stop reading.

I liked getting to know Maia. She was one of the first ones that really fought what was going on and stayed in denial until she came to a point where she wouldn't be able to hide from it anymore. I liked that about her. It showed that she was different from the rest, yet a valuable asset to the group.

Chaos is building and making it's self known. You know, excuse my language, that shit is about to hit the fan. It keeps you on edge and full of suspense as you turn each page. I am excited yet scared to know when it all comes to a close and how things end up. The author has woven a wonderful story that keeps you engaged through the whole series.

Since the books are shorter, it makes it a quick read through each book but with them being split up the way they are, it makes it less stressful than trying to read a huge book. For once I think splitting them apart did a favor for the series and allowed more detail to be placed within the pages for us to enjoy.
