Emma has just learned that her mother is a long-lost Poseidon princess, and now struggles with an identity crisis: As a Half-Breed, she’s a freak in the human world and an abomination in the Syrena realm. Syrena law states all Half-Breeds should be put to death.
As if that’s not bad enough, her mother’s reappearance in the Syrena world turns the two kingdoms—Poseidon and Triton—against one another. Which leaves Emma with a decision to make: Should she comply with Galen’s request to keep herself safe and just hope for the best? Or should she risk it all and reveal herself—and her Gift—to save a people she’s never known?
Once again, Anna Banks infuses Emma and Galen’s points of view with humor, intrigue, and waves of romance.
This book starts off with finding out that her mother isn't who she thought she was. This sends her for a loop and there is quite a bit of drama that goes on with that. This is a book that is full of suspenseful moments. Just when one ends, you get another set sent to you. It makes it pretty much impossible to put down.
The first book is more of a beginning course into the world and this one plunges you straight in. You get to see the Syrena world completely, including all the good and bad. I was hoping the whole time that things with Galen and Emma would work out. I didn't know how the law was going to affect them, but I was satisfied with the ending.
The last few chapters have so much happen that the author left it open for a very promising ending. I already have book 3 sitting in front of me as I type this. I have a feeling tonight might be a long night since I am going to want to devour this before I go to bed.
The characters get even more depth in this book. You get deeper into their personalities and who they truly are. They stay the same mainly, but you feel more close to them. This is a book that I love the secondary characters just as much as the main two characters. I could read a series based on the other characters like Toraf, Rayna, Grom, and even Rachel. I would love to see into her life before she met Galen.
I don't want to say much more due to spoilers, but I hope you all know how great this trilogy is so far. There is definite talent by the author that I don't get to read often. She weaves fantasy into real life in a way that makes you not be able to doubt it could be real.
