Movie Review -- Fifty Shades of Grey

I have been waiting for this movie for a long time. I figured when I read the trilogy that it was going to end up being a movie one day, even though it is pretty dirty. I was right.

I had planned to see this with my mom, aunt, nana(grandma), and my brother's girlfriend. We were going to make a girls days of it, but they weren't able to see it for a couple more weeks. I knew there was no way for me to wait that long, so I asked my brother's girlfriend if she wanted to watch it with me anyway.

I wasn't sure how it would be going with someone else, but it really wasn't as awkward as I thought it was going to be. It was pretty nice sitting with someone and being able to comment on the movie directly after. Especially since that person also read the book.

I really enjoyed the movie. I was pretty nervous for this one. So many movies just are horrible anymore that are based on books and I didn't have the highest hopes for this one. I wasn't sure how the characters would be in the movie. I felt Alexis Bledel would have been a great Ana and Ryan Gosling felt the most like Christian Grey to me. I was impressed with the actors though. I felt they had great chemistry.

I had a couple complaints with the actress who played Anastasia. Her hair annoyed me. I know this sounds retarded but it always looked nappy and dirty. It never laid down nicely, it was always messed up looking even when she tried to look nice. There was also one scene that you see her legs with a window behind her. You see full on leg hair on her upper thigh. I know now all women shave their upper thighs and that is fine. To see her with leg hair that was long enough to be mistaken for man hair was kind of gross. I couldn't help but comment on it right there on the spot to my friend next to me and we both laughed at it when we got out of the theater.

I feel the environment was made very nicely for the movie. Some things seemed slightly out of order but it worked out okay. The apartment was a little darker looking than I pictured it in my head, but it did have the cleanliness I pictured. I guess I can't really expect them to have the actual apartment in my head. Chances are it probably doesn't exist at all.

My biggest complaint of the whole movie would probably be Kate. I just didn't like who played her. She didn't look like Kate would at all to me and she didn't seem to play her personality well either. She was also put on the back burner a lot more than she was in the book. Due to the way I didn't like her much in the movie, it was okay by me though.

There is some scenes were breasts and butts are shown, but you don't see any actual full on genitals which was good. I think that would have made it too awkward for me. They are clearly naked in the scenes, you know where they have undies or not, but you don't get the full view to make it into porno style.

I am glad I went to see this and was highly impressed with the job that they did on it. I feel they really put the effort into it to make the scenes close to they were in the book. The settings were wonderful and the actors did a great job grabbing the personalities of Christian and Ana.

I plan to go see it again with my family when they go to see it for the first time and I can't wait for the next movie to come out!!
