Memory Lane Monday #1 (Twilight)

This is a new weekly meme that Kristalyn over at The Sarcastic Palmtree and I, Amber at Paradise of Pages, came up with. We have been wanting to re-read some of our favorites but feel overwhelmed by all the other new books coming out that our re-reads get put to the side. That is how we came up with this meme, we decided we don't want to put them aside anymore, so we will be taking turns putting up our reviews on the re-reads we do throughout the month. This does not mean we won't keep up with recent releases as well, it just means we will make more time for those we have read before as well.

__________________________________________________

So here is how this meme will work:

  • Each week the co-hosts will trade off with recapping when it is a re-read or what they have heard so far about the book and the other co-host will put up their review.
  • The participants can read anything that they remember reading in the past, or something that they have wanted to read that has been around for a while and just haven't gotten around to reading it yet for whatever reason.
  • Participants can decide if they want to recap the book before reading it or just put up a review of what they read.
  • Anyone can join in, just please link back to our blogs as well as add your name to the linky so we can hop around and see what everyone is reading.
  • Please put our banner on your post as well, so we all look the same!
  • We ask you kindly to follow BOTH of our blogs.
  • Most importantly remember to just have fun! :)

__________________________________________________

We will be providing each week a linky that you will be able to also link your posts for us to view. All we ask is for you to put up our banner as well as a link back to BOTH hosts on your post.

We decided for our first week to re-read a series that is very dear to our hearts, Twilight. We will be re-reading this series throughout the month of April. This week we will start out with just a re-cap of what we remember of Twilight and will then will be writing the review for Twilight as well as a re-cap for the next book for the next couple weeks until the end of the series.

Twilight is what got me into reading, as well as Kristalyn. We both weren't much of a reader until then. For me, my story is that my cousin wanted to read it really bad and I ended up talking her mom into letting her read it. Then when she was done with it, she kept insisting for me to read it. I didn't think I would like it, but just for her, I decided to read it and be able to talk to her about it. Then I started reading it, I got sucked in. I went the next day and bought the rest of the books in the Saga and devoured them within a few days. I walked around with my face in the books. I just couldn't stop.

So for all that to be said, we really want this meme to start off with this series. There isn't anything more perfect for us :)

Now without further mumbling....my recap.

Twilight
by Stephenie Meyer

About three things I was absolutely positive:

 First, Edward was a vampire.

Second, there was a part of him - and I didn't know how dominant that part might be - that thirsted for my blood.

And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

When Bella Swan moves to the gloomy town of Forks and meets Edward Cullen, her life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. With his porcelain skin, golden eyes, mesmerizing voice, and supernatural gifts, Edward is both irresistible and impenetrable. Up until now, he has managed to keep his true identity hidden, but Bella is determined to uncover his dark secret.

What Bella doesn't realize is the closer she gets to him, the more she is putting herself and those around her at risk. And it might be too late to turn back...

As stated above, I read this book because of my cousin. She used to have nightmares when she was younger, so her mom wouldn't let her read these stories. I called up my Aunt one day when my cousin was staying the night and asked if I could buy her the books. I said I would take responsibility if she ended up getting nightmares and that my cousin could call me, no matter what time of the night, if she ended up getting a nightmare. Her mom agreed to let me buy them for her.

My cousin finished the books within a few days and raved to me about how good they were. She said she knows I don't read too much, but that I had to give them a shot. I finally agreed after much persuasion to at least try out the first book. So I drove off to our local Target and picked it up. It then sat on my table for over a month. I just didn't want to read it. It sounded quite stupid to me to be honest.

Then one day I was so bored I decided to give it a shot. I took it with me to a weekend with my mom and sat outside while the dogs ran around and started reading. I was sucked in quickly. I became a mindless zombie. I ended up reading about half the book before I was told that dinner was ready. Throughout dinner I sat there in a daze wondering what was going to happen. I kept reliving the story in my mind. My family tried to talk to me but I was just so out of it I couldn't really talk much.

Once dinner was over I ran back outside to finish it. I ended up finishing it at about 1 in the morning. I fell asleep dreaming about the story and woke up early so I could run out to get the other books.

I loved the idea. I had never read a book on vampires before. I knew it was very different from other stories. I mean heck, the vampires sparkle. Though I honestly can't remember now if we find out about that in book 1 or not. It has been years since I have read the books. I liked Bella. I felt bad for her with all she was going through. She was not in a place she didn't like and didn't want to be at. It rained all the time and she was spending time with her dad that time away made her not really know who he was. The whole situation was awkward.

Edward, to me was dreamy from the start. Since I knew ahead of time that the stories were about vampires I knew that Edward had to be one. I loved the mystery he gave off though. He was always doing things to shock you throughout the story. Just when you think you get to know him, he flips around and changes into something else. I like that about the story. It was refreshing to be kept on my toes.

I remember loving the details that were in the story as well. I could feel like I was there, as Bella experiencing everything she does.

The love in the story is also amazing too. I am a sucker for romance, so it is no surprise that I got sucked into that aspect of the story.

One thing that annoyed me was Jacob. If you haven't figured it out yet, I am team Edward. I could tell from the start Jacob was trouble but I just wasn't sure why yet. I felt a hatred for him from the start. When I saw his name I would get angry.

I can't wait to re-read this book to see how my opinions have changed after lots of other books being read. I want to see if I still love it just as much as I did or if my feelings change. I have a feeling I will love it just the same, since my mind tends to hold onto things that made me happy and find a way to keep that feeling going for me :)

Life of a Blogger -- Favorite Animals

lifeofblogger
This is a weekly feature done on Thursdays by Novel Heartbeat. There is a new Topic each week that will let us tell a little bit about our lives. These posts are non-bookish, and more personal. Here's to getting to know each other :)

Now for this week's topic...

Favorite Animals
_______________________________________

Blackbuck Antelope

I used to work at my local zoo. I drove the train that went around the preserve as we called it. While I got to do that I fell in love with these guys. They are so funny to watch as they run around and play. I also got to experience them have babies and I got to watch those babies grow up. It gave this species such a special place in my heart. When I get my own farm one day, I will have a bunch of these running around!

Sharks

I love all sharks, but for some reason the one shark that has stood out to be through all the rest is the Blue Shark. So that is the picture you got. They aren't very aggressive and they tend to look sad all the time. They are some of the skinnier of the sharks as well. I know it is weird for me to love sharks, but they have been my favorite animal since I was a little girl. I wanted to be a Marine Biologist, but the chances of me getting to work with these amazing animals was slim to none so I decided against it. I will just continue to stalk them on my own accord :)

Penguins

I also have a very strong love for penguins. I can sit and watch them for hours. The picture above is of Adelie Penguins. They are a smaller species of penguin. I love all of them though, I don't care which ones. I just find the Adelies cute so I figured you guys would too :) I have lots of penguin books sitting around all over the place!

Well, that's what I have this week!

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly blog topic that is brought to you by Jill over at Breaking the Spine!!

I've been waiting for this one ever since I read the first book, Chasing Forever Down. I mean granted, I want to read anything by Nikki, but still. I knew this book was coming and I just can't wait for it. And I just have to say the cover is gorgeous. This one seems like it is going to be a deeper book to read, but will most likely have me rethinking my life, like most of her books do!

Top Ten Tuesday -- Top Ten Things On My Bookish Bucket List

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme brought to you at The Broke and the Bookish!! Each week we will be releasing a top ten book related list for you all to enjoy!

This was really fun and a little challenging. After the obvious things came out as to what I wanted to do or buy, I had to think a little harder on what else I would really like to do or have done.

Top Ten Things On My Bookish Bucket List

________________________________

1. New Blog Layout
I've loved my blog layout for a while now, but a couple months ago, I decided I would rather have a more Faerie style layout. I think it would still fit into a paradise theme for me but feel more like myself when I look at my blog. I definitely am a blue and green kinda girl so the colors fit for sure, but I just want it more in depth. I hope sometime this year I can find someone that can make that dream come true :)

2. Start a New Weekly Feature
I have wanted to start a weekly feature for a long time. I tried one when I figure made my blog, but it just never worked out. I now have a new idea, with a dear friend of mine, Kristalyn at The Sarcastic Palmtree, that we plan to start up in April and I am so very excited. You'll find out what it is next week!!

3. Read 60 Books
I only got 50 read last year, but I ended up in a pretty bad reading slump for a while. I am definitely making up for it by reading well over 20 books already for the year. I hope to keep it up and maybe get closer to 80-90 books for the year. I would be so very proud of myself!!

4. Catching up on all the Series I want to read
There are SOOOOO many series that I have wanted to read, but being as series tend to be a little long, it takes me a bit to get through them all. I am slowly making it through though.

5. New Bookshelves
I have had my bookshelves scattered around our place for a while. I moved in with my boyfriend and he has considered it still his place for a little while. But now that it is more our place, I am able to now sit and decide where I want to move bookshelves to. I want to get 2 more bookshelves and have them side by side and have them looking very pretty. I have 2 5 shelf bookshelves right now and they are as full as they can get. So I definitely need another one. I can't wait to get my new shelf and move everything all around :)

6. Reading Chair
I've been on the lookout for a new reading chair. Right now our couches aren't very comfortable. I only sit down on them so I can spend time with my man while he is playing video games. So I sit down with my book and curl up next to him and read. We get to be close to each other but do our own thing at the same time. When he isn't home I sit in our bed and read because my butt doesn't go numb there. I am saving up money now to either get me my own reading chair, or to buy new couches that him and I can both enjoy and find comfortable.

7. Meet an Author
I would love to meet the Godwin sisters, Emily and Nikki Godwin. I have been reading their books for the past year and love them so much. They have both written such wonderful stories. I have learned to call both of them friends and think they are wonderful people. They came to visit here over the summer, but I didn't know them really then so we never met up. I wish I would have been able to see them. I hope they either move here like they have been wanting to or come back for a visit so I can finally see them!

8. Read something by Jane Austen
I know this seems small for most, but I have been terrified to read her. I have her so many good things about her and her books and it has me intimidated. I am not a classic person in general, I tend to find them rather boring. I am afraid when I try to read her I will find her extremely boring and have a lot of my readers offended. I think I just need to take the leap and give her a chance.

9. Make my TBR List not so Big
I have had books on my shelf that I bought years ago, yes, not month ago but years. I have been wanting to get to them but then more new books come out and I read them first. So I have started making myself read at least one book a month out of my TBR Book Jar. If I read most of my TBR list for the month then I pick another book as well to help knock down the amount of unread books off my shelves.

10. Read more Books out of my Comfort Zone
I tend to read books that I know I will like for sure. If they look like I don't know if I will like them, I tend to push them aside for something else. I did this with Harry Potter (part of it was also the size of the series), Hunger Games (Synopsis sounded horrible), and The Mortal Instruments Series. All of them I was unsure about. Yes, there are many more that I have and have not read, but I still get scared of them all the same. Once I end up giving them a chance I almost always love them very much, I just gotta get past the original fear of the books first.

My Teaser:

" 'We're not going anywhere,' said Harry, while Hermione nodded vigorously. 'You can speak to us together, or not at all.'
Scrimgeour gave Harry a cold, appraising look. Harry had the impression that the Minister was wondering whether it was worthwhile opening hostilities this early. "

Review -- Attachments

11547291Attachments
Author: Rainbow Rowell
Release Date: March 27th, 2012
Publisher: Plume Books
Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars
Pages: 323
Format: Paperback, Bought

Goodreads | Amazon | Book Depository |

Synopsis:

"Hi, I'm the guy who reads your e-mail, and also, I love you . . . "

Beth Fremont and Jennifer Scribner-Snyder know that somebody is monitoring their work e-mail. (Everybody in the newsroom knows. It's company policy.) But they can't quite bring themselves to take it seriously. They go on sending each other endless and endlessly hilarious e-mails, discussing every aspect of their personal lives.

Meanwhile, Lincoln O'Neill can't believe this is his job now- reading other people's e-mail. When he applied to be "internet security officer," he pictured himself building firewalls and crushing hackers- not writing up a report every time a sports reporter forwards a dirty joke.

When Lincoln comes across Beth's and Jennifer's messages, he knows he should turn them in. But he can't help being entertained-and captivated-by their stories.

By the time Lincoln realizes he's falling for Beth, it's way too late to introduce himself.

What would he say . . . ?

My Review:
Lincoln is a guy who has had a rough time in the world of love. So he takes a job to help with internet security. This job happens to be at night, oh, and did I mention, he has to read the emails of those in the office that come back flagged. He is supposed to give them warnings, but...there is 2 girls that he just can't seem to warn. As he continues to read their emails, he finds out, he might be falling for someone that he has never even met....

This is such a cute story. I flew through it. As I am sick at home with strep throat, I had to do something to pass my time. I have been devouring books. I have always wanted to read something by Rainbow Rowell. I have heard so much about her that I just had to. I own both Attachments as well as Eleanor and Park. As Eleanor and Park sounds really cute, I had more of a pull towards Attachments. I decided that it would be my first book by her to read. I devoured the whole book in only a day. I had to keep reading.

This book goes between following Lincoln's life as well as following the lives of Jennifer and Beth through their emails. You don't follow the girls life outside of the emails that are put into the story. You still learn so much about them since they were best friends. They put some pretty personal stuff in their emails not realizing that their emails are flagged most of the time.

Lincoln, besides that fact that I hate his name, seems so wonderful. He is portrayed as a bigger guy, tall, little bit of a belly, but just naturally big. Not my type exactly, but I still loved him as a person. He is such a big teddy bear. He has problems with being social, but he tries so hard to change that, as well as a lot of other things in his life. His self-esteem is so low that it causes him to chicken out a lot, but it just makes you love him more. You root for him throughout the entire story. He deserves his happily ever after.

Beth, seems to have the perfect life. The hot boyfriend, a place of her own, a great best friend, and a good job where she gets to watch movies all the time. But there is so much more that she wants. She has settled for so long. It is only a matter of time till anyone that isn't satisfied with their life breaks out of the shell and tries to fix it all.

This book is set in so many different places, but it is mainly at the office where Lincoln is reading the emails. It does go between him hanging out with his friends though as well as through flashbacks of his life when he was with his ex-girlfriend.

There is so much personal growth within the story. It is nice to have a realistic story with real struggles throughout the book. In life anymore, most of us sit on computers. We are very anti-social and just afraid of going out and doing anything to fix our lives. So the fact that you can fall in love with someone through reading emails is very possible, and I am sure it happens all the time. Some of my best friends I have met through blogging and have never met them in person. To me that means nothing, I know them just as much through emails, phone calls, and texting as I am sure I would in real life. I feel like it is that way with learning to find love online as well. It can come to you in all sorts of ways. Whether it is through the internet or just a casual glance when at the office or out on the street. It can happen anytime and anywhere.

I also connected with all the characters because they are close to my age. Most of them are 28. I am 25, so I am not quite there, but I still deal with the same things. Wanting marriage, wanting to start a family, not sure if I am ready for any of that. Wondering if I am doing the right thing in my life. If I could get more somewhere else. I think it is something all of us go through when we get to our mid to late 20s. I love books that deal with teens and stuff, but I also love to read books with characters that are closer to my age. I tend to connect a little more that way. When I read YA books, I tend to do more of a flashback of my life, than of my life right now.

I loved this book. It flip flops between the emails and Lincoln's life, but it does it in a way that it flows well. Sometimes weeks go by, sometimes just a few hours. You get sucked into the life of Lincoln and wish him the best throughout the pages. I can definitely see why everyone likes this author so much. her writing flows so well and it is easy to picture all of it happen. She gives more realistic stories.

I think anyone out there who loves romance, or books that deal with getting older life struggles, this is the book for you. There is so much in the story that captivates you and holds you til the very end.

Loved It!!

Movie Review -- Divergent

I read this trilogy a couple months ago. I flew through all three of them. I even cried harder than I have in a long time to the final book in the series. The author definitely knows how to hit your heart.

This being a movie based on a book, I had to go see it. I also was scared. There are so many movies that have been coming out that have just ruined the books. They are so different they might as well change the name of the movie. This movie is not one of those.

There is definitely differences from the book, but most of them weren't bad. and it is still very very close to the original story line. I think this is because the author actually helped produce this movie instead of just giving up the rights and letting the producer have a hayday on the books.

The ending is different. It still ends up the same way, but the way it happened was different. I don't know how I feel about it yet. I mean it worked in the movie, but I also very much enjoyed the ending of the book as well.

Also, there wasn't much Edward in this movie. I was really hoping to see the scene that happened with him and Peter, but it wasn't there and really there was no Edward either. I was also disappointed to not see Uriah either. I think they show him at a time or two but never even introduce him as a person in the movie. I hope to see more of him in the next movie.

That is really all I have to complain about with this movie. The rest of it was fantastic. I was so scared about who they cast for Tris, but she ended up pulling it off nicely. She captured her spirit very well, so props to Shailene for winning me over. I was also shocked at how good Four was. He is British, but he didn't show his accent at all. Heck, he did an American accent better than I do, and I'm from the US. He looks so much older when he has a beard, so I was a little worried about him looking too old, but when he shaves, he looks much much younger. He is also very cute and played the part well.

Favorite part of the movie for me, I know I know, was the kissing scene. I was kinda worried about how they would pull it off. After the fiasco in the City of Bones movie for their kissing scene and song choice, I was scared this one would be butchered as well. It was quite the opposite. It seemed so realistic that I would have swore they were really kissing to kiss and didn't know the camera was even there. It is very rare to see that sort of chemistry for me in kissing scenes, but they did it wonderfully. I had a smile on my face afterwards.

They captured all of the characters nicely. Christina was as snarky as ever. Tris was very much her usual badass self. Four gave off his God like appearance. Jeannine being played by Kate Winslet was a little weird. I'm so used to seeing her with brown hair, that is was difficult to remember it was Kate playing the character. She played her well. They changed her personality a little bit, but the acting on her was still good.

I loved this movie and know I will most likely be going again next week by myself to enjoy it all over again. I hope you all go to see it and love it just as much as I do. They did a wonderful job and is definitely worth the trip to your nearest movie theater!

Wonderful Movie!!

If you have yet to see the movie and would like to see the trailer, watch the video below!

What did you all think of the movie??

Harry Potter-A-Thon -- Week 3

I decided to join Nadia at Nadia Reads in her HarryPotter-a-thon! She is doing weekly updates of her progress and I really wanted to be able to tell you about my updates too :)

So here it goes!

I have completed:

2

Currently Reading:

I am 447 pages into this book and definitely will be finishing it today and starting on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I ended up going out to a movie yesterday, Divergent, and had a horrible headache/migraine Friday night, so sadly I just wasn't able to finish this before the end of Saturday, but it's okay, I will still be on track of my reading and getting my goal done for the month :)

Movies watched:

Since the books have gotten way bigger, I was only able to finish Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix to be able to watch it. I hope to finish and watch both the Half-Blood Prince and the Deathly Hallows this week, well at least the first Deathly Hallows movie.

Are you doing this HarryPotter-a-thon?
If so, let me know how you are doing so far!!

LGBT Month!!

Laura Plus Books

LGBT Month is hosted by Cayce at Fighting Dreamer and Laura at Laura Plus Books. It runs throughout April and it’s here to celebrate LGBT readers, LGBT authors and of course LGBT books!

I have decided to sign up for this month of LGBT. I am not Gay myself, but I know several people that are and I support them full heartedly. I know it is a struggle for so many people out there that are a part of this community and I am trying to do what I can to make it easier for them.

That makes me read several books that deal with LGBT and try to help promote the books. When I saw this LGBT Month Sign-Up, I knew I needed to do it.

It is a very simple thing to do. They are doing a read-along in the month of April that you can or can't participate in. If you want to read along with all of them, great, if you don't, that's great too. It's not necessary. All that they really ask is for you to do just one post in the month of April that has to do with LGBT. If you don't have a blog, you can use your Twitter or Youtube as well. Just anything to help get the word out.

I think this is so great and I hope it will help show everyone that they are supported. It is there to help not only the community, but the authors and books to get support too. I hope you all sign up too :)

If you are interested, you can click the banner above or Click Here to go to the sign up page.

Hope to see you there :)
