Synopsis:

Being stuck in the godforsaken desert is Adrian Blake’s worst nightmare come true. Senior year is all about making fun memories. It’s not about starting over at a new school and navigating a new Brady Bunch family. It’s really not about living with a sexy, arrogant would-be stepbrother who knows how to push her buttons.

Alex Montgomery is the very definition of a player. The only thing he commits to is a one night stand. He’s exactly the kind of guy she hates. When she sleeps with him, it’s the biggest mistake of her life. Now she can’t stop thinking about him. Not at school. Not at home.

Sometimes the best mistakes are the ones that you make over and over again…

My Review:
This book was first introduced to me for a cover reveal and it sounded pretty interesting so I figured why not. I know it has a bit of a usual story line to it that could easy make the story be horrible, but this wasn't one of those books.

I devoured it. I had stuff to do during the week, but I still was sneaking in any pages that I could. I usually never do this. If I can't read at least a chapter, I don't pick the book up, but I was for sure creeping on the pages to read anything I could. I got up early on my day off just to finally be able to finish it.

Now that it is finished, I want to scream "I NEED THE NEXT BOOK!" The author ended it in a position set up for a sequel and I know I will be sitting here stalking the book until it is finally released. Some authors set up the next book in a way that leaves such a bad cliff hanger that it makes you angry. I hate when this happens and I sometimes won't read the next book out of principle of what they did to me. This book ended in a way that definitely left you wanting more but wasn't anything to make you angry.

This book is set in Arizona, right near Phoenix. I have family in this area, so I am able to understand and follow the book very well. For those who haven't been to Phoenix, let alone the desert, you can still easily see a picture of Arizona and be able to follow along. It is mainly set in the house that Adrian now lives in as well as in the high school they all attend. It is a book that you can keep reading and picturing everything going on without the smallest bit of effort.

I love the characters, all of them. Grant is mysterious but seems to have a very smart and attentive head on his shoulders. Quentin is pretty funny, even with his trying to get Adrian to sleep with him all the time, he still is light hearted and doesn't let anything really bother him, that is a quality I like. Justin is a sweet heart that seems to just be bubbly and honest with everyone. No matter what happens, Justin always seems to have hope in himself and others and puts faith in everyone, even when the don't deserve it. Alex seems pretty closed off to most people, he shows the Alex he wants them to see, but when he finally opens up to let you see who he is, you can't help but fall for him too. I know the pain he is going through, you can just see it and you want to hug him and tell him everything will work out. He doesn't always make the right decisions, but you can tell he isn't used to experiencing emotional pain and he doesn't know how to handle it. Adrian has had a hard life when it comes to her mom leaving, but instead of using that to make herself strong, she uses it as a crutch to hold herself back, though she doesn't seem to notice it. I think when she is finally able to let that chip off her shoulder, she will shine brighter than any star in the sky. And I saved Travis for last. I love Travis, he reminds me of a friend I met when I lived in New Mexico, he became my crutch when my life was falling apart and I see he is that for Adrian, too. He sees her for who she truly is and it is amazing the type of person he is. No matter what he is there for her, no questions asked. It is hard to get friends like that.

Okay, now that my large paragraph about the characters are over, lets talk about the romance itself. It is a slow romance that you can see both of them are fighting. They don't know what to do because it scares them both to let something like this consume them so much. Instead of just really sitting down and talking it all out and putting everything all out on the line, they both run from it and cause a lot more pain than needed for both of them. Some authors make the romance seem fake and keep putting in trauma between the characters to get more pages into the book, but this one seems real and honest. It is something that is believable and easy to follow even though it isn't always easy on the characters. High school can be tough and full of drama, and this book has just that. The author does it in a way that makes it not so childish and keeps you having to read on.

I have been pulling away from the world of contemporary, but it is books like this that have pulled me back into the world. Jenn Young will forever have me as a fan.
