Skylar Fletcher is a proud Harris Academy Bulldog! She has everything she’s ever wanted: a perfect boyfriend, great friends, and her dream college waiting for her in the fall. But nothing lasts forever. Skylar's world shatters when her mom decides it is time to move and drags Skylar, kicking and screaming, into Bobcat territory.

At Delmont High School, home of the Bobcats, Skylar has no friends and is often bullied. To make matters worse, her home life sucks thanks to all-star quarterback Caleb Morgan, nephew of her mom's live-in boyfriend.

At first Skylar and Caleb want nothing to do with one another. But they soon discover they're not that different after all--and each is harboring a secret attraction to the other. But can a Bulldog and a Bobcat ever really be more than friends? And are Skylar and Caleb willing to risk everything to find out? Rival Love is a debut young adult contemporary romance from Natalie Decker.

My Review:
Skylar is mad. She doesn't want to move, especially to the place of her rival school. As she moves, her world falls apart. She loses her boyfriend, friends, and any sort of calm she once had. She thinks it can't get much worse, until she sees the guy who lives in the house with her. He is the star quarterback for her new school, so of course he hates that she is a bulldog. As the months go on, she gets a glimpse of the real Caleb, now what does she do that she is falling for him?

I read the synopsis for this book when I was offered to read it for the blog tour. I had to read it. It sounded so dang cute, there was no way I couldn't sign up. This book was adorable, but also had so much more going on within the pages.

You feel so bad for Skylar. You see all that is going on with her and the poor girl can't catch a break. She is very whiny through the whole book, but not in a way that I found annoying. All of it seemed justified, even when some of the outbursts didn't seem necessary. No matter how hard she tries to do the right thing, sometimes things just didn't work out for her.

Then there is Caleb. Who at first seems so cocky and you want nothing to do with him. As you start to read his side you get a glimpse into the real Caleb and start to wish him well too. Sometimes I am like get over yourself, it doesn't matter what others think, but I know when you are in high school, reputations can seem like everything. You find out early on that something bad happened in Caleb's life, but you don't get to find out until almost the very end. I liked that you found out late, because you got to learn to love him for him, not what he went through.

The book mainly goes between school and home, but there are some times where they are at her work and a small visit to her dad's house as well. The school they are at seems to be 3 stories high. Where I live, I have never seen a school so big so it was a little hard to picture them walking so far around a school for their classes. I know there are schools that big though, so I didn't dwell on it too much.

The chapters go between Skylar and Caleb. I liked that they went between the two because you got to know both characters and understand what was going on in their heads when they would have their little fights. They both seemed to have a real fear of letting the other one in. That made them act out sometimes and regret the actions later.

I loved this book up until the end. You hear so much about how she was a virgin, he definitely wasn't. You hear her talk about schools and all of her sports she plays. You watch her finally learn who she is and accept her school and that it isn't so bad. Then the book just kind of ends. I felt like we didn't get closure on really anything and that made me sad. I don't know if there is another book to follow to explain the rest or if that is just the end and it's all we get. I would have liked to know what happened to her, what happened to them. If she got into the college she wanted to go to or if she got going to the one her dad wanted her to go with. I wanted to know if she ended up getting to swim or not. I also wanted to know if Caleb got to got a good college or not as well. I know some books do small cliff hangers, but this book just kind of ended without any closure. For that, I did knock it down 1 star.

If the ending would have been better, I would have for sure given the book 5 stars. The book was still wonderful and worth the read. I am glad I got to read the book and I do have my fingers crossed that a sequel will come out so I can really find out how it all ends!!
