Memory Lane Monday #10

This is a new weekly meme that Kristalyn over at The Sarcastic Palmtree and I, Amber at Paradise of Pages, came up with. We have been wanting to re-read some of our favorites but feel overwhelmed by all the other new books coming out that our re-reads get put to the side. That is how we came up with this meme, we decided we don't want to put them aside anymore, so we will be taking turns putting up our reviews on the re-reads we do throughout the month. This does not mean we won't keep up with recent releases as well, it just means we will make more time for those we have read before as well.

So here is how this meme works:

  • Each week the co-hosts will trade off with recapping when it is a re-read or what they have heard so far about the book and the other co-host will put up their review.
  • The participants can read anything that they remember reading in the past, or something that they have wanted to read that has been around for a while and just haven't gotten around to reading it yet for whatever reason.
  • Participants can decide if they want to recap the book before reading it or just put up a review of what they read.
  • Anyone can join in, just please link back to our blogs as well as add your name to the linky so we can hop around and see what everyone is reading.
  • Please put our banner on your post as well, so we all look the same!
  • We ask you kindly to follow BOTH of our blogs.
  • Most importantly remember to just have fun! :)

We will provide each week a linky that you will be able to also link your posts for us to view. All we ask is for you to put up our banner as well as a link back to BOTH hosts on your post.

The Elite
by Kiera Cass

Thirty-five girls came to the palace to compete in the Selection. All but six have been sent home. And only one will get to marry Prince Maxon and be crowned princess of Illea.

America still isn’t sure where her heart lies. When she’s with Maxon, she’s swept up in their new and breathless romance, and can’t dream of being with anyone else. But whenever she sees Aspen standing guard around the palace, and is overcome with memories of the life they planned to share. With the group narrowed down to the Elite, the other girls are even more determined to win Maxon over—and time is running out for America to decide.

Just when America is sure she’s made her choice, a devastating loss makes her question everything again. And while she’s struggling to imagine her future, the violent rebels that are determined to overthrow the monarchy are growing stronger and their plans could destroy her chance at any kind of happy ending.

I remember bits and pieces of this story. I thought parts of this book were in The Selection but I was wrong. As I re-read through The Selection, I was finding out that my timeline for the two books was not what I thought it was.

I remember a Halloween party, I remember more rebel attacks. I remember that she still was figuring out her heart. I remember Marlee's mishap. I also remember the King not being too happy with America towards the end of the book, but I don't remember exactly why.

I know as I read this America annoyed me very much. I loved the story but I just wanted to go into the book and smack her in the face to wake her up. I want her to see what she is waiting around to lose because she won't let go of something that is dragging her down. As I read The Selection, I didn't feel that way this time around. I am curious to see how my opinions on that matter change through this re-read.

I wish I knew more about what I read, but I just can't seem to pull anything else out of my memory about this book. As I finished the book last time, I know I had it end with me screaming no and wanting to keep reading but knew there was nothing else to keep reading. I knew that I had to wait for the final book to come out for me to finally get on the trilogy.

As I skimmed through the book for a spot to use for my Teaser Tuesday post, I came across some parts that have me anxious because I can't remember them. It left me with me having to figure out what was meant by it. I know I will now be devouring this trilogy as fast as I can so I will finally know what happens.
