Top Ten Tuesday -- Top Ten Goals/Resolutions For 2014

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme brought to you at The Broke and the Bookish!! Each week we will be releasing a top ten book related list for you all to enjoy!

I decided to just throw all of my resolutions together. I am going to blend my personal life ones and my reading life ones. Mine are pretty simple this year, but I'm still excited to work on them :)

Top Ten Goals/Resolutions For 2014

1. Read 60+ books
Last year I only read 50 books. Part of that was because of a reading slump and also because I didn't start really reading again till April. So I missed out on a couple months of reading. So I am hoping to average 5 books read a month to achieve this goal :)

2. Work out more
I did a work out class for my college last spring and I felt great. I was in shape, had good muscle tone. Then, the class ended and so did my working out. I don't really want to get into the machine work outs again, so I just want to go on bike rides or work out by running or my cardio games I have on my Wii. Just enough to get me back in shape. I've become a couch potato!

3. Learn how to speak a little Spanish
I took Spanish in high school but I was angry that the teacher that taught German retired right as I was able to take the class. So I was thrown into Spanish and it made me mad. So I did enough to get by but not anything to really learn the language. So I want to learn how to speak it at least a little bit because I have a couple of children in the class that I teach that speak mainly Spanish. I would love to be able to understand them and be able to talk to them back.

4. Give up Soda
I have a bad gallbladder. I need to get it taken out eventually but right now I am just too scared to do it. I have found that dark colored sodas have been a cause of what makes it act up really bad. So I have already cut out all Coke and Pepsi from my drinking diet. I did however switch to Sprite after I gave them up. I still have a bad problem with drinking it and I know it is horrible for you. So I am using this year to give it up completely.

5. Take a vacation
My boyfriend and I have always been very financially stable. We sometimes were worried how we would even get food. But now that we both have steady paychecks coming in, we are going to start taking a vacation once a year to just get out for a little while and relax together. It is much needed!

6. Visit my family more
My dad's side of the family only lives 2 hours away from me, but most of the time I just don't want to take that drive. I am being selfish but I need to stop that. On my days off I just want to be lazy and do nothing. My papa (grandpa) has a stroke a few months ago and I went to visit him in the hospital. His short term memory was severely messed up at the time, he kept repeating stuff over and over, not realizing he already said it. I went out there to see him and his face lit up when he saw me come into the room. Just to know I was there made his day and he even remembered it later that I was there. I only went to see him that once because I just didn't have the gas money to go back. I did get to see him again for Christmas and he was so sad when I had to go back home. Him and my grandma are both getting older and I have vowed this year to see them at least once a month. I need to see them before it is too late and I never can again.

7. Draw more
I used to draw all the time. I loved it. I drew mainly fish and flowers, but I still loved it none the less. I haven't drawn in over 2 years. I take my free time to sit on Youtube, read, or watch movies. I need to start using some of that time to do other things, and drawing is one thing I am going to start back up.

8. Hang out and talk with friends more
I have a bad habit of forgetting my friends most of the time. Not on purpose. I am just either busy working or doing something and I don't reply back to their texts. sometimes I text them back when I remember to, but a lot of the time I just forget. I am also bad about not talking to them first. I get home and want to be lazy and do something else and don't really feel like talking to anyone and I need to stop doing that before I won't have anyone to even say is a friend.

9. Get out of the house more
I get off work and come home and sit down most of the time. My boyfriend asks me from time to time to go out somewhere and I always say I don't want to. The few times I say I will go, I am dreading it the whole time and can't wait to get home. I need to find a way that makes me more happy to go out and not dread it anymore.

10. Take my dog on more walks
I keep going back to the being lazy part. I get off work and I don't feel like putting the leash on my dog to take him outside for a walk. This is 100% pure laziness for me and is making me a horrible furbaby mommy. My dog lights up when I get home and is so excited to see me and then I just go sit on my iPad. I love on him as he snuggles with me, so please don't think he is neglected. I just haven't been doing enough to get him exercise too. He is trapped inside all day and could use a nice walk to stretch his little legs.

Well, that's my list for the week! Hope you all enjoy!

  1. I need to take my dog on more walks too. Good luck giving up soda. I tried to do that once but failed.
