Discussion: Reading Locations

Everyone has their special place they like to sit and read. I also know some that like to read anywhere they can, no matter where it is. This has me thinking. Am I the only one who has a hard time reading in public?? Where do you all read?? Do you guys have a special reading room??

I tend to read on my couch or in my bed. I used to read outside when I had a backyard so my dog could go run around and play while I read, but sadly where I am right now, it just isn't possible. I have also started reading outside in my car during my lunch break just to get some peace and quiet.

I love where I work, but they all come into my classroom to eat lunch and they talk most of the time during the nap time of the kiddos, so I am just not able to really concentrate on a book while others around me are talking. I can kind of read, but I just don't retain as much as I would if I was alone or it was more quiet.

That has me realizing that a lot of you aren't like that. I hear so many of you say you read while you are waiting in line at a store, or when you are stuck in a traffic light or something while you drive. There is no way I can do that. I don't want to read a book a sentence here or there. I like to devote my time into a book. If I only have a few seconds or minutes to read, I would rather just wait then take little snippets from the books.

I might be able to read more if I wasn't that way, but sadly that is how my brain operates. To me reading is a relaxing thing, a way to escape from everyday problems. Trying to squeeze it in between small times is more stress than anything. I don't want reading to become a stress, I want to keep it as my quiet time to myself.

We are going to be getting a new place sometime next year and I am so excited for it. I am trying to get my boyfriend to let us find a place that either has a big 2 bedroom place with an extra room somewhere or a 3 bedroom place so he can have his "man cave" and I can have my reading room. I want to line a wall with bookshelves and find me a nice cozy chair or loveseat so I can curl up and read in my own little place. I have the idea of what I want in my head, I just have to find the space in order to do it.

I know I am pushing my luck, but I also want to get a place with a fenced backyard or a place where I can fence my own backyard in. If I am able to get that, I also want to get a nice set of patio furniture so I can enjoy the pretty weather of Florida. I have a tiny back porch and balcony, but I feel horrible to go sit outside and read when my pup will just sit in the window the whole time and stare at me while I am out there. I don't want to leave him inside, I feel like it is wrong to do that to him when he is stuck inside most of the day. We have streets all around us though, so I am not able to let him wander off because I know he will be hit by a car.

I am confident we will eventually find the perfect place with both a reading room and a backyard! When/if I do find the perfect place, I can then upload lots of pictures for you guys :) Keep your fingers crossed!

  1. I have my books crammed into our tiny spare room that also houses the treadmill (which we barely use because we both prefer running outside). When my brother-in-law moved in with us, he and my husband finished the basement for his bedroom. Now he's away at college but he's left a lot of stuff behind. I'm going to move my books down there once he graduates and moves out for good.

Comments are loved and appreciated :) Thanks in advance!!
