My friend Amanda over at I solemnly Swear posted about features maybe being too much on her blog. I have felt the same way for a while but didn't know what to do about it. So, I'm coming here to all of my followers because I need your honest opinions.

How do you all feel about features on blogs. I post a lot of them up for you guys just because you all seem to comment on them a lot more than my reviews. I have felt recently like my maybe my reviews aren't good enough and maybe that is why no one reads them. So I have been working hard to do all the memes every week for you all to have something to read and enjoy.

With that being said. It is exhausting. Most weeks I struggle to come up with things for Top Ten Tuesday and Feature and Follow Friday. I enjoy them some weeks, but other weeks I do it just because I feel like I need to, not because I want to. I still really like Waiting on Wednesday and Teaser Tuesday, so I am sure I will do those every week no matter what!

But, I don't want to have a boring blog where I only post reviews up. I would like to post more for you guys that take some thought and are things that you would like to read up on.

I was thinking of doing discussion posts, I see some other blogs doing it and I envy them because I am not sure what I could discuss, I guess until I get the ball rolling on them I just don't know what topics to do.

My other thing I could think of was maybe doing read-a-longs for some series I have read and want to re-read. Maybe it would be fun for all of us to do that. Or maybe get a book each month that we can all read together and discuss it at the end of them month.

This is where I need your help. I would love to hear how you feel about memes, features, my reviews, discussion posts, read-a-longs. Anything you have to say will be helpful, whether is it good things about my blog or bad. I want to make this a blog that not only I enjoy doing, but one you all enjoy reading and following as well!

I hope to hear some feedback from you all and appreciate all of your opinions/help!

  1. Personally, I think too many features are exhausting for the blogger and the audience. It's hard to keep up and/or comment on everything. Given, I sort of just spot check blogs here and there for something that catches my eye, but avid blog readers probably do struggle to keep up.

I think you should do what you enjoy. Blogging is supposed to be fun, not a "job." If you feel you're having to scrape up ideas just to get a post up, it takes away from the entire experience. I think it's okay to skip out on some features sometimes. If you have something for it, by all means, do it. If not, don't sweat it.

I've seen quite a few bloggers doing read-alongs lately. I haven't joined any, as I usually don't have the time to participate, but you may be on to something with it. :)

  2. Remember blogging is supposed to be a fun hobby. Write what you want to write about. Do the memes you want to do, or will acutally go read on other people blogs. I think having at least one feature a week is a good idea because it helps people connect to your site (either a pre-made meme or one you start yourself)

I recenetly have been changing the format of my blog from a book blog to more of a lifestyle blog, and I love it. While I mostly post book stuff anyways, I feel like I'm not stuck wiht jsut writing reviews and random memes.

    1. I really like that idea, thank you! I think I will start posting more about my life a little bit, it sounds super fun and can still have some people relate too :)

    2. Way to spell check Kendra! lol. I think writing a bit more personal stuff also helps people connect with you as a blogger, gets some personality into the blog! Good luck! I'm excited to see where it goes!

  3. To be honest, I hardly ever read memes unless someone has posted on mine. Other than that, I pretty much stay away from them. I only do Stacking The Shelves and then my own feature for music Sit Tight Sunday. I think like the last post said, I'd love to know more about your life and your lifestyle. I know this isn't true for everyone, but personally, I'd love to know things like how your day went or what you had for lunch. I think Asti over at A Bookish Heart does a feature called "Bookish Life" or something along those lines every now and then. I think they're really interesting! Good luck with everything though! I hope you don't stay too confused!

  4. The memes/features that I do are where I get the most pageviews and comments. I find that they bring the traffic in and then I start getting more comments on my reviews too. I know when I visit blogs to read their meme post, I always try to read and comment on a review as well, if I can find a recent on that interests me.

I only do the meme I like. Some weeks I don't like the topic for either TTT or F&F so I skip them both. (Pageviews and comments go WAY down.) Some weeks I do them both and WoW too. (Pageviews and comments up!) I'd like to do more discussions, but I struggle to come up with topics.

Comments are loved and appreciated :) Thanks in advance!!
